Extranet Connectivity : Secondary Line
By eliminating some single points of failure, the Secondary Line becomes an important element providing maximum reliability for mission critical business to business connectivity. In addition, our Secondary Line circuits may be able to take advantage of any diversity designs you have employed with your local phone carrier, further increasing reliability.
The Secondary Line is also a simple way to increase capacity between your network and the CareBridge network. Once configured, the routers will split data packets across the primary and secondary line. Depending on the types of data traffic and loads, the routers may provide close to a 50-50 split between the two lines.
The Secondary Line consists of a leased line circuit to a different CareBridge backbone node and a CSU. The CSU plugs into the second serial interface of the Extranet Data Line router. The router configuration is modified to utilize both the primary and secondary circuits for data packets. The line speeds of the Extranet Data Line and the Secondary Line must be the same in order for the routers to properly perform load sharing.
If either of the leased line circuits or their respective backbone nodes should fail, the routers will automatically redirect traffic
to the functional circuit. Once the failed connection is restored, the router will automatically begin using both circuits again.
